Description

It is one of the most impressive houseplants that decorates homes and business premises by giving an exotic color. It is a tropical plant, a cousin of the pineapple and is characterised by its narrow leaves which form a rosette-shaped stem in a bright red colour. Some people think it is the flower of the plant, but it is a bracteate (modified) leaf. In its natural habitat, gusmania is epiphytic, meaning it grows and develops on tree trunks and makes small yellow flowers. There are several species and varieties of gusmania that have red, yellow and orange bracts in addition to red, yellow and orange bracts.

Care

Gusmania needs a warm and moist environment to grow and thrive. Choose bright or semi-shaded locations, away from direct sunlight.

Watering

The gusmania needs watering every 4-5 days during the spring and summer period, as this is the period when it grows. In the winter, we reduce the water considerably and water every 10 days. When watering, it is important to pour the water from above in such a way that it also falls on the centre of the rosette of bracts.

Temperature

The ideal temperature is: 18-25 °C with a cold resistance limit (15 °C)
