Description
One of the most popular outdoor orchids is the Cymbidium orchid (Cymbidium sp.) which originates from tropical and subtropical regions of Asia. Among its narrow leathery leaves, the Cymbidium orchid forms spectacular flowers in the middle of winter that last from 1 to 3 months. The flowers of the Sibidium orchid have silky petals and come in a variety of colours such as white, cream, green and brown with beautiful dichromes and unique combinations. In addition, some species of sibidium orchid also leave a sweet fragrance.
Care
In general, we prefer a semi-shaded environment for the sibidium orchid and choose a balcony with a west or east orientation for it to grow best. Avoid southern spots with strong sunlight because it can cause burns. on its foliage.
Watering:
The basic care for the Sibidium orchid is regular watering every 4-5 days during the spring and summer season, which is its main growing season. In heatwave conditions it may be necessary to water quite a bit more frequently and to spray the foliage with water to increase the relative humidity. During the autumn and winter period, reduce the frequency of watering and water once a week. It should be noted that the appearance of flowering in sibidium orchids is a result of lack of water and a decrease in temperature.
Temperature:
The Sibidium orchid can be kept outdoors all year round, at least in the southern regions of Greece, as it is resistant to temperatures down to 5°C. Otherwise, it can be kept potted outdoors from spring to autumn and brought indoors during the first frosts of winter.
Transplanting:
For transplanting the sibidium orchid, choose plastic or clay pots that have drainage holes to remove excess water during watering. Place the orchid in a pot one size larger than the one in which it was planted. It is worth noting that transplanting into a considerably larger pot will significantly delay flowering.
Tips
The flowers of the Sibidium orchid can be kept cut for long periods of time in a vase or made into excellent bouquets to offer at special occasions.
