Description

Swordwood is one of the most popular and beautiful houseplants. Its striking white colour creates a very attractive contrast with the dark green colour of its leaves that makes it stand out. The white "flower" of the swordleaf, is actually a modified white-colored leaf called a spathe, which embraces the regular swordleaf flower. Flowers are formed in a similar way in the anthurium, so we may hear it referred to as the "red spathophyll". However, these are different plants belonging to the same family.

Care

It is a plant that thrives in bright places, but without coming into direct contact with the sun's rays.

Watering

Watering should be done regularly with the substrate slightly moist at all times. In the winter period it should be watered when the soil surface is dry. It is usually watered once a week. If it is left unwatered for several days, the swordleaf "shows" us that it needs watering, as the leaves begin to droop downwards and show a dullness. Once watered, it quickly recovers and regains vigour.

Temperature

The ideal temperature is: 18-30 °C with a cold resistance limit (10 °C).

Transplanting

Use soil suitable for houseplants with good drainage (enriched peat). Lightly break up the roots peripherally so that it can absorb nutrients and water directly.

Tips

It has the ability to purify the air of the room in which it is located like a natural ionizer.
